Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and his deputy Ajit Pawar meet on Thursday with some key ministers to review the state’s current economic situation in the context of the Covid-19 blockade, the ANI news agency reported.

Ministers are expected to discuss steps to be taken to revive the state’s economy. Thackeray and his colleagues are also likely to discuss the post-state shutdown economic revival plan.

Maharashtra is the most affected state due to Covid-19. According to the update from the Union Ministry of Health on Thursday morning, the state had 25,922 positive Covid-19 cases and 975 deaths.

The state recorded 1,495 cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, its biggest jump in a single day. It also recorded 54 deaths due to illness yesterday.

The country’s worst affected city, Mumbai, also broke the 15,000 mark on Wednesday with 800 new cases, bringing its count to 15,747.

Of the 54 deaths recorded on Wednesday, 40 were in Mumbai, six in Pune, two in Jalgaon, Solapur and Aurangabad and one in Vasai-Virar and Ratnagiri. More than 50% of the state’s Covid-19 codes have arrived in the month of May alone. Between May 1 and 13, Maharashtra registered 13,820 cases, representing 53.31 percent of the total cases. The total number of patients recovered to date is 5,547.

To ease pressure from the state police to enforce the blockade, the state government has asked for 20 companies from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). Thackeray previously indicated that the state could seek additional Center forces to give the phased state police force a rest.

The other critical points of the state include the city of Pune, with 2,830 cases, Thane with 1,122 cases, Navi Mumbai with 1,018 cases, Malegaon with 617 cases and Aurangabad with 586 cases.

To date, the state has tested 2,30,857 samples in government and private laboratories.
