Mumbai:
Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, in reaction to a corruption investigation against a leader of his Shiv Sena, issued a challenge and warning to the former BJP ally.
“We even have information about you,” the chief minister said in an interview with his party spokesman, Saamana, to mark a year of the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition he formed with Sharad Pawar’s CPN and Congress.
Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik and his son Vihang Sarnaik are being investigated by the Directorate of Enforcement on charges of money laundering linked to a company that provides security guards. The agency is examining what it believes to be “shady deals” between the company and Pratap Sarnaik.
The Shiv Sena has accused the BJP of using central agencies for political revenge. Pratap Sarnaik is one of the prominent voices who sought an investigation into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. He also made headlines with his lawsuit lawsuit against actor Kangana Ranaut for “defaming the image” of the Maharashtra government.
“They have the Surya Chakra, we have the Sudarshan Chakra,” Uddhav Thackeray said in his interview.
“I am quiet, but that does not mean that I am weak. Maharashtra and Bengal are revolutionary states. We never tolerate injustice. Do politics as much as you want. But if you misuse power, remember that power will not stay with you forever.” continued the Chief Minister.
“Remember that cases were also brought against you and Balasaheb (Sena founder Bal Thackeray) defended him.”
The Shiv Sena broke with his former ally BJP last year following a power-sharing dispute after the two won the Maharashtra elections. The Sena later partnered with the ideologically opposed PNC and Congress. Over the past year, friction between former partners has worsened.
Devendra Fadnavis of the BJP, a former chief minister, has challenged the Sena to send a list of “120 BJP leaders” to the Directorate of Execution, as had been threatened by its top leader Sanjay Raut. “He had challenged Raut to send the list. Today he said he would send the list. We are waiting for him,” Fadnavis said Wednesday.
