In a meeting with leaders of various political parties about the current situation of COVID-19, Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Thursday that the blockade could extend until the end of May in the state.
“We managed to control the spread of the infection due to the strict implementation of the blockade. Now, we have to be more careful until the end of May, “Thackeray said during Thursday’s interaction, adding that it could only be done with everyone’s cooperation.
He said the BMC had established a large number of isolation centers at BKC, Worli and Race Course to address the increasing number of cases. The prime minister said the state government also requested the Army and the Port of Mumbai Trust to make UCI beds available.
“We are taking every possible precaution as we transport migrants to their home states. We will also be careful before giving people permission to transport them within the state so that they do not create any danger in the orange and green zones, “he said.
The meeting, held via videoconference, was attended by Chief Deputy Minister Ajit Pawar, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Devendra Fadnavis, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Pravin Darekar, Ministers Balasaheb Thorat, Ashok Chavan and Eknath Shinde, the head of MNS Raj Thackeray, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi’s leader, Prakash Ambedkar, and leaders of other smaller parties.
An official said such an extension was likely. “As the number of cases increases every day, the blockade is likely to extend until the end of May,” the official added.
Bahujan Vikas Aghadi MLA Hitendra Thakur said: “CM indicated about the extension of the confinement when he said that more care should be taken until the end of May to stop a further increase in coronavirus cases.”
Thakur demanded that some local trains be started for people working on essential services. “There are a lot of people on the buses that essential service workers use. By starting some trains in the morning and afternoon, these people can maintain social distance and travel safely. The entrance in these trains can be given after checking their identification cards ”, he added.
MP CM Ajit Pawar said the state government has asked the Reserve Bank of India to grant crop loans to farmers who have reaped the benefits of the farm loan exemption. “The talks continue with RBI.
Furthermore, the government will ensure that there is no shortage of seeds and fertilizers for the kharif season, ”he added.
Meanwhile, Fadnavis said thousands of migrants could be seen walking to their home states. “The state government should look for more trains in the Center. It should also pay more attention to the health situation in Mumbai and Maharashtra, “said Fadnavis, while giving full support to the government. The government should ensure better coordination in administration, he added.
