MUMBAI: CM Uddhav Thackeray has assured Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) that the state government will participate in the movement against the Center in the interests of farmers and for the protection of states’ rights.
The Shiv Sena, one of the three main constituents of the MVA government in the state along with the NCP and Congress, announced their support for farmers national strike called Tuesday.
The NCP and Congress also declared their support for the agitated farmers.
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said the party supported the continued movement of farmers along the Delhi border and called on people to take part in the strike called by farmers on Tuesday.
“The farmers in Punjab and Haryana starting the fuss is a sign of the failure of the Union government,” he said. “The situation in Maharashtra is different. The government of Shiv Sena and Maha Vikas Aghadi always take positive steps.”
Prem Singh Chandumajra, general secretary and spokesperson for Shiromani Akali Dal, met with CM Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday, seeking support for the farmers’ protest. The meeting was held at the official residence of CM ‘Varsha’. Extending his support for the unrest, Thackeray agreed to visit Delhi to participate in a meeting if opposition parties plan one to decide strategies on various issues.
