Uddhav Thackeray asks Prime Minister Modi to instruct politicians not to hold protests amid pandemic


Expressing concern about large gatherings amid the second wave of Covid-19, Maharashtra Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to instruct politicians to refrain from organizing protests.

Thackeray brought up the issue of political protests at a meeting of the Prime Minister with top ministers from various states on the coronavirus situation.

During the meeting, Thackeray said that few politicians are playing with people’s lives and organizing protests amid the second wave of Covid-19 and called on Prime Minister Modi to intervene in this matter and instruct those political parties to follow the Covid-19 protocols.

He also informed the prime minister that the state has formed a task force to ensure the timely distribution of the coronavirus vaccine and the execution of the vaccination program.

In addition to Thackeray, the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, CM Vijay Rupani of Gujarat, CM Ashok Gehlot of Rajasthan, CM Bhupesh Baghel of Chhattisgarh, CM Manohar Lal Khattar of Haryana, CM Pinarayi Vijayan of Kerala and CM Arvind Kejriwal from Delhi are among those present at the meeting. held via videoconference.

Maharashtra continues to top the list of states most affected by Covid with 82,915 active cases and 3,172 deaths, according to the Union Ministry of Health. 1,79,237 people have recovered from the disease in the state.
