The government of Maharashtra is ready to announce the decision on conducting the 2020 final exams in the state. The decision would be made by a team of vice-chancellors who would meet to decide on the conduct of the exams together with the modalities of the exams. The announcement would be made for both undergraduate and graduate courses.

The team or committee formed by the state government consists of six members led by Dr. Suhas Pednekar, Vice Chancellors of the Universities of Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Nanded and SNDT, along with two former Vice Chancellors from the University of Mumbai and Directors of Higher and Technical Education. The committee will decide on the completion of the final exams of the year in the state and will also make recommendations on how to take the exams in the state.

The state government will also present uniform guidelines for the taking of exams and also that the committee will ask the universities to verify the feasibility of the online exam from the university directors.

The committee was formed by the state after Uday Samant, the state’s minister of higher and technical education, raised concerns about the conduct of the exams followed by the Supreme Court’s verdict to take the final year’s exams. In his tweet, he asked the center to clarify how the exams will be conducted before September 30, if schools and universities are closed, and what exactly state governments and students should do.

According to the TOI report, exams can be taken in October 2020 at public universities in the state. The exam is expected to be taken online and the question papers can be multiple-choice, MCQ-based questions. Experts may also suggest reducing the weight of the paper by 100 points and reducing the exam duration to one hour.

Meanwhile, the the Maharashtra student body has written to the state government, suggesting ways to take senior exams. This comes after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the University Scholarship Commission (UGC) to conduct exams for seniors in India. Reportedly, so far 16 bodies of student organizations have collectively written to Chief State Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
