Two security guards die in an elevator in downtown Mumbai | Mumbai News


MUMBAI: Two security guards of a Agrippa A building in downtown Mumbai died after the elevator they took from the basement to the ground floor did not start, its doors were closed and there was waterlogging. the Fire brigade the two security guards were removed, but they had already died, police said.
The incident took place in Nathani residence building near the Kala-Paani junction in Agripada around 8 am Wednesday. The two security guards, Zameer Ahmed Sohanan (32) and Shehzad Memon (37), went from the mezzanine to the basement to turn on the Water Pump for the building’s water tank.
Agripada police said that once security guards reached the basement, they found that water had entered there. The duo got on the elevator. Although the elevator doors closed, it did not start. The water also began to enter the elevator. They pressed the alarm button repeatedly to call for help. Building residents gathered outside the building and some went to see the basement. They tried to open the elevator door but could not. The fire brigade was immediately alerted to the incident.
A team of firefighters who arrived at the scene had to cut the part of the door to open it. His staff removed the two security guards out of the elevator. However, they had died. Their bodies were sent to the hospital for autopsy. The Agripada police have registered a case of accidental death and it is being investigated.
