In a security breach, two protesters made their way onto the playing field during the first India-Australia ODI before being escorted here on Friday.
One of the invaders, carrying a banner denouncing the Adani Group of India coal project in Australia, approached the field just before pacemaker Navdeep Saini prepared to launch the home team’s sixth inning.
The two were escorted by security after their brief invasion.
Explained: What is the Adani coal mining project in Australia?
Fans have returned to the ground for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic forced them to play empty stadiums around the world.
Cricket Australia has allowed stadiums to be filled to 50 percent capacity in the India-Australia series.
The engagement comprises three ODIs, as many T20 Internationals and four Tests.

Stop the Adani protesters running into the field and stop playing.
It took security about five minutes to realize they were trespassing and they weren’t players. #AUSvIND pic.twitter.com/wLBgdeLlqu
