SRINAGAR: Renewed intermittent clashes between opposing armies along the Line of Control (LoC) that began in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir earlier this week spread to neighboring Rajouri district on Friday, leaving at least two more Indian soldiers killed.
The army said Pakistani troops resorted to an “unprovoked violation of the ceasefire” in the Suderbani area of Rajouri early Friday. “On November 27, the Pakistani military resorted to an unprovoked violation of the ceasefire at the LoC in the Sunderbani sector of the Rajouri district,” said Lt. Col. Devender Anand, Jammu-based defense spokesman. He added: “The troops themselves responded immediately to enemy fire. In the fire that followed, two jaws of the Indian Army, Naik Prem Bahadur Khatri and Rifleman Sukhbir Singh, were seriously injured and later succumbed to their injuries. “
He said that Naik Prem Bahadur Khatri and Rifleman Sukhbir Singh were “brave, highly motivated and sincere soldiers.”
On Thursday, a 16 Garhwal commissioned noncommissioned officer (JCO) Subedar Swathantra Singh was killed and a local resident Muhammad Rashid was injured in Pakistani artillery and small arms fire along the Kirni and Qasba sectors of the LoC in the district of Poonch.
Previously, Pakistani authorities reported the death of a 33-year-old civilian, Ansar Ahmed, in what they said was an unprovoked violation of the Indian army ceasefire in the Bagsar sector along their side of the LoC. They said the victim was riding a motorcycle near his home in Garhi village.
