On Tuesday, police claimed to have arrested the two defendants in the murder of a 21-year-old student from Aggarwal College in the city of Ballabgarh here.

Both defendants have been sent to police custody for two days.

Revealing that the main defendant, identified as Tausif (22), and Rehan (21) his partner were captured after approximately five and a half hours of an intense combing and hunting operation that started shortly after the incident, OP Singh, Police Commissioner ( CP) here He said that while Tausif was arrested in Sohna, his hometown, Rehan was also detained this morning on the basis of supplies.

He said that ten police teams, including crime branch officials, had been chasing shortly after the incident.

Stating that a strict punishment was looming for the accused, he said that an SIT headed by an ACP-level officer has been established for a speedy trial and conviction of the guilty.

The culprits had previously also been booked in a kidnapping case (Section 365 IPC) in 2018 in response to a family complaint against Tausif, ACP Crime Anil Kumar said the family had later withdrawn the complaint after an engagement.

Mool Chand Tomar, the girl’s father, who is employed in a private company here, also said that the complaint filed two years ago was withdrawn due to social pressure for being related to the future of his daughter and did not want any. more problems on the subject.

However, the incident sparked protests and demonstrations by neighbors and several right-wing activists, who have demanded the death penalty for the culprits claiming that it was a case of ‘Love Jihad’, in which innocent girls from the majority community were forced to convert. to the minority community after a marriage or an affair.

Hundreds of local residents and activists related to various political and non-political organizations gathered on the Ballabgarh Sohna road this noon, causing the traffic movement to be blocked.

Although a large number of policemen were also dispatched to prevent any adverse incidents, the blockade was lifted at around 4.30 p.m.

The protests also took place at the civil hospital facilities and at the university where the incident took place.

It is revealed that the girl knew Tausif from the school days, when she was a class younger than him. Tausif, who is currently following Gurugram’s physiotherapy course, was recently offended when Nikita stopped taking his calls, it is claimed.

When he found out that she had come to the university to sit for the sixth semester exams of the B.Com (Hons) course on Monday, he approached his friend in a car around 4 p.m. and tried to kidnap her again. as soon as he left the university building.

But when the girl resisted, the abandoned lover opened fire and died before being rushed to the hospital.

A CCTV recording of the incident went viral on social media. Claiming that it was a case of Love Jihad, a member of the local Hindu Sena unit, he claimed that the defendant was forcing Nikita to convert to Islam, but when she refused, he shot her dead.

Citing scant cooperation from the authorities, Vinay, the victim’s older brother, said that if the police had taken him seriously enough, the incident could have been avoided.
