New Delhi: The microblogging site Twitter has issued a written apology to the Parliamentary Committee for the error in the map of Ladakh showing the Union Territory in China. Twitter has said that the errors will be corrected before November 30.
“The statement from Twitter has come in the form of an affidavit signed by Damien Karien, Chief Privacy Officer at Twitter Inc, for the mis-geo-tagging of the map of India,” MP Meenakshi Lekhi told PTI.
Lekhi added: “Twitter has now given us a written apology about an affidavit from Ladakh being displayed in China.”
“They have apologized for hurting the feelings of the Indians and have sworn to correct the error before November 30, 2020,” he said.
Twitter’s geotagging feature featured “Jammu & Kashmir, the People’s Republic of China” in a live broadcast from the Leh Hall of Fame, which is a memorial to fallen soldiers in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
It should be noted that the central government had forked the former state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on August 5, 2019.
