NEW DELHI: One day later Twitter landed in the middle of a controversy for showing Jammu Y cashmere as part of China, the microblogging platform on Monday corrected the geotag location.
“We became aware of this technical issue on Sunday, and we understand and respect the sensitivities surrounding it. Teams have worked quickly to investigate and resolve the geotag issue in question,” a Twitter spokesperson told TOI.
On Sunday, national security analyst Nitin Gokhale noted for the first time that Twitter was showing Leh’s popular war memorial, the Hall of Fame, as part of Jammu and Kashmir, which was further shown as part of the People’s Republic of China.
Twitter’s failure had sparked outrage on social media, with multiple users tagging the company and Twitter support on Sunday to rectify the mistake. Some of them had even called for a boycott of the platform, a trend observed frequently in recent months, especially in China-related matters.
