Asansol, West Bengal:
A West Bengal sculptor made a Tussauds-like wax statue of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, whose death in June left thousands of his fans in shock and prompted multiple investigations. Susanta Ray from Asansol has created statues of many famous personalities, such as Amitabh Bachchan and Virat Kohli. He has also immortalized politicians like Jyoti Basu and others.
“I really liked (Sushant Singh Rajput). It is regrettable that he died. In his memory, I made this statue for my museum,” Susanta Ray told the ANI news agency. “If Sushant’s family requests his statue, I will make a new one,” added the sculptor.
Susanta Ray has a museum in Asansol, Madame Tussauds-Style, where one can stand alongside legends like Uttam Kumar, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Pele and Mother Teresa among others and take pictures.
The wax statue of Sushant Singh Rajput was unveiled on Thursday and the sculptor posted a video on his Facebook page. It has become popular overnight and people have flocked to the museum to take a look.
Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his home in Mumbai on June 14. The CBI is investigating his death.
The sculptor has been making statues for more than a decade. His wax statues have found a place in various cities in India. In an interview for the Kolkata-based Telegraph, Susanta Ray once said that she had been inspired by a Nazrul Islam song: Momer putul or the ‘wax doll’.
