The us President, Donald Trump on Tuesday defended his decision of anti-malarial drugs hydroxychloroquine as a “line of defense” against the coronavirus.
“I think it is worth, as a line of defense and I’m going to stay on it for a little more time. I am very curious of me, but that seems to be very strong,” Trump told reporters at the White House, a day after he revealed that he has been taking medicine to prevent the deadly infection.
The president of the united states said that the drug has gotten a bad reputation just because “it was his promotion’. “So, obviously, I’m a very bad promoter. If someone else is promoting it, it would say that this is the greatest thing ever,” he said.
“It is a very powerful drug, I guess, but it doesn’t hurt you and what I thought of as a first line of defense, possibly it would be good, and I have not had any impact from it,” Trump said, adding that the anti-malarial drug, has received great reviews from doctors all over the world.
There have been some large studies in countries such as Italy, France and Spain, and doctors in the united states have been very positive, ” he said.
“Many doctors came out and said it’s great,” he said. “I have a doctor in the White House. I said what do you think? And it is only a line of defense,” he said, adding that the drug was cheap.
Trump claimed that a recent study of Veterans Affairs patients was inaccurate, and the drug was given to those who were on the brink of death.
“There was a false study done where they gave very sick people, very sick people, people who were about to die. It was given for, obviously, not the friends of the administration and the study, people who were about to die. All the world was old, had bad problems with the heart, diabetes and everything you can imagine,” he said.
“Well, they gave it. So, immediately when it came out, it gave a lot of false information,” Trump said.
Separately, in an interview, Vice-President, Mike Pence said he is not taking hydroxychloroquine. “I am not. But never lose any American to take the advice of your doctor,” he said.
“Hydroxychloroquine is a drug that has been around for more than 40 years for the treatment of malaria. But, in this process, the FDA approved so-called off-label use where doctors may prescribe hydroxychloroquine in the terms that they consider to be timely. Therefore, my doctor has not recommended it, but I would not hesitate to take the advice of my doctor. Any American should do the same,” Pence said.
However, the leaders of the opposition, crashed the Triumph to take the untested drug. “It is reckless to tell people that the use of hydroxychloroquine. All the experts say that at best does not help. Then, what about the senior citizens who do not go to the doctor, who to take chloroquine? Listen to the president. And in the worst cases, it hurts. So I don’t know why he did it,” Minority Leader of the Senate, Chuck Schumer told MSNBC in an interview.
“Maybe he has family or friends who are owners of part of the company. It’s not unlike the president. Someone in the Mar-A-Lago, calls him on the phone he says oh, this is a good company and he only speaks of it. Maybe he did it to divert attention from all the bad things that happen, and maybe the lie”, he alleged.
Trump has called hydroxychloroquine a “game-changer” drug in the fight against the coronavirus. After the Triumph of the repeated tutoring of hydroxychloroquine as a “game changer” cure for the virus, the FDA issued a warning that the drug has not been “proven to be safe and effective for the treatment or prevention of COVID-19.”
The Triumph of the Administration has purchased millions of doses of hydroxychloroquine and stocks of the same.
India has sent several million doses to the united states as part of its humanitarian gesture. India is one of the main manufacturers of the drug, which was synthesized in 1946 and is in a class of medications that have been used historically to treat and prevent malaria.
It is approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat malaria, arthritis rheumatoid, lupus, arthritis, and other autoimmune diseases. The drug is not approved by the FDA for the treatment of COVID-19, but has been identified as a possible treatment for the infection and the government of the united states has requested his immediate availability.
