TRS Legislator Nomula Narasimhaiah Dies of Cardiac Arrest After Post-Covid-19 Complications

Telangana Rashtra Samithi senior lawmaker Nomula Narasimhaiah died of a heart attack after suffering post-Covid-19 complications at Apollo hospitals in Hyderabad in the early hours of Tuesday, members of his family said.

He was 64 years old. He is survived by a son and two daughters.

Narasimhaiah, who represented the Nagarjunasagar assembly constituency in the Nalgonda district of Telangana, suffered from Covid-19 and was in hospital for more than a month. Although he tested negative for the virus later, he still suffered from respiratory problems.

At approximately 3 a.m. Tuesday, he complained of chest pain and was immediately transferred from his residence in Old MLA Quarters to Apollo Hospitals in Hyderguda. He took his last breath while undergoing treatment at the hospital around 5:30 a.m., family members said.

Born into a farming family in the Palem village of Nakrekal mandal of the Nalgonda district, Narasimhaiah had been associated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) since childhood due to the party’s influence in the area.

While pursuing his Bachelor and Master of Laws at Osmania University, Narasimhaiah was actively involved in the activities of the Student Federation of India (SFI) and later became a member of the CPI (M). He practiced as a lawyer in Nakrekal and Nalgonda.

Later, Narasimhaiah entered active politics and was elected chairman of the Nakrekal bloc parishad. He was elected as an MLA twice on the Nakrekal assembly constituency CPI (M) ballot in 1999 and 2004 and was the party leader in the assembly in the combined state of Andhra Pradesh.

Unlike his party, Narasimhaiah was active in an independent movement in Telangana and in 2013 he left the CPI (M) to join the TRS. He lost to Nagarjunasagar’s Kunduru congressional candidate Jana Reddy in 2014, but won the seat against the same leader in the 2018 assembly elections by a margin of more than 7,771 votes.

Telangana Prime Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed his regret over the death of Narsimhaiah. He said the senior MLA would be remembered as a leader who worked for the welfare of the people.

Stating that Narasimhaiah’s death was a great loss to TRS, as well as to the people of the Nagarjunasagar constituency, the chief minister conveyed his condolences to the grieving family members.
