Calcutta:
BJP MP Tejasvi Surya on Monday called Mamata Banerjee’s government “autocratic, dictatorial and fascist”, prompting a strong counterattack from Trinamool MP Nusrat Jahan. “Run to a mirror right now to find out who the real fascists are,” he tweeted.
Surya, in a press conference on Monday, said that he had given a privilege notice to the Lok Sabha chairman against the top brass of the state administration, following the violence at a BJP rally in Howrah on Sunday.
“We will ensure that this autocratic, dictatorial and fascist government of Mamata Banerjee comes out in this election. I call upon conscientious Indians who respect and value the Indian Constitution to speak out against fascism in West Bengal, to defend the rule of law.” , said. He was quoted by the ANI news agency.
In response, the actor-turned-politician accused the BJP of destroying the country with “autocracy and hate politics.”
“Mr. Tejasvi Surya, instead of making ridiculous statements, run to the mirror right now to find out who the real fascists are. It is your bosses in the BJP who have destroyed this country with their autocracy and hate policy since 2014.” wrote on Twitter.

BJP supporters, protesting a series of killings of party workers in Bengal, clashed with the police, throwing stones and blocking roads in Calcutta and Howrah.
Mr. Surya has alleged that chemicals mixed with water were sprayed on the BJP workers.
“The Mamata administration in West Bengal is similar to the autocratic regime in North Korea,” he was quoted as saying by the PTI news agency.
The BJP has stepped up its political activities in Bengal ahead of next year’s assembly elections.
Last week, Interior Minister Amit Shah was visiting the state, where, in a meeting with party leaders, he presented the party’s goal for the elections: 200 out of 294 seats.
“The citizenship law will be implemented and the refugees will get citizenship. It depends on the coronavirus pandemic. But it will be done. The law is in effect,” Shah later told reporters.
