Kolkata / New Delhi:
Trinamool Congress deputy Nusrat Jahan was seen immersed in the Durga Puja festival in Calcutta, dancing and playing the traditional drum or dhak – while West Bengal celebrates its biggest festival of the year.
A two-minute video shared by the ANI news agency shows the Trinamool Congress leader, wearing a red and white sari, dancing with several other women. The clip also shows her playing drums, along with other traditional drummers, popularly known as Dhakis.
The TMC MP, while performing traditional movements, is drenched in the holiday spirit as others capture their performance on moving cameras.
All people wear masks and try to adhere to government-imposed social distancing regulations to control the spread of Covid.
Last month, the Trinamool Congress leader had received death threats on social media for disguising herself as the goddess Durga for a clothing line ads she posted on Instagram on September 17. His office had then alerted authorities.

However, this was not the first time that Ms. Jahan had been threatened or abused on social media. Last year, she was abused for marrying a Hindu, wearing ‘sindoor’ or vermilion, and participating in rath yatra soon after.
Dismissing criticism, last year, the ANI news agency quoted her as saying: “I am the special daughter of God. I celebrate all festivals. I respect humanity and love more than anything.”
This year, the festive celebrations have been reduced due to the new coronavirus pandemic, which has affected more than 3.4 lakh people in Bengal. Across India, more than 78 lakhs have contracted the virus since January; more than 1.17 lakh have died.
