Calcutta:
One day the Trinamool Congress lost one of its most important ministers, Suvendu Adhikari, who sent his resignation letter to West Bengal’s chief minister, Mamata Banerjee, but has not yet resigned as MLA, a prominent North Trinamool MLA. Bengali, Mihir Goswami, resigned from the party. and joined the BJP.
The onboarding took place at BJP’s headquarters in New Delhi on Friday. The party’s national general secretary, Kailash Vijayvargiya, presented the BJP flag to Mr. Goswami in the presence of MPs Arjun Singh and Nisith Pramanik.
Goswami said he hoped to achieve development in North Bengal, which in his opinion has remained neglected.
Mr. Goswami was with Trinamool since its inception. On October 31, he resigned from all positions he held and expressed dissatisfaction with the influence of electoral strategist Prashant Kishore and his IPAC team in the Trinamool Congress.
“Do I have to learn politics from a corporate entity?” Goswami had asked. “Is the Trinamool already Mamata Banerjee’s party?” had added.
On Friday, he said he waited weeks to hear from Mamata Banerjee after leaving party posts. But since she hadn’t come close, he was forced to give up.
“I was humiliated again and again. Despite informing the party about it, it did nothing to solve my problems. It seems that the management has lost control over the party. It was not possible for me to continue with this humiliation. So, I resigned. from the main party membership, “said Goswami, who had left for New Delhi with BJP MP Nisith Pramanik in the morning.
The political upheaval in North Bengal is enormously significant. The BJP had won the majority of its 18 MPs from North Bengal in 2019. Previously congressional dominance, control of Trinamool has traditionally been weak in North Bengal. Infighting is a big problem. Mihir Goswami’s departure is likely to hurt Trinamool even more.
