Traders Record Rs 72 Billion Sales on Diwali Amid Boycott of Chinese Goods – CAIT | Economy news


NEW DELHI: The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) trade body on Sunday (November 15) said it has recorded sales of around Rs 72,000 crore this Diwali in the country’s main markets.

According to CAIT, the business was conducted during Diwali this year with no Chinese products for sale amid CAIT’s call to boycott Chinese products.

“According to reports collected from 20 different cities that are also considered the main distribution centers of India, the Diwali holiday sales are expected to generate a turnover of around 72 billion rupees and have given China the expected loss of 40 billion rupees, “CAIT said in a statement.

At least 20 cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Nagpur, Raipur, Bhubaneswar, Ranchi, Bhopal, Lucknow, Kanpur, Noida, Jammu, Ahmadabad, Surat, Cochin, Jaipur, Chandigarh are considered distribution cities ‘by CAIT for the purposes of its surveys.

CAIT said the strong sales that took place in commercial markets during the Diwali holiday season indicate good business prospects for the future and brought some smile to traders.

Consumer goods, consumer durables, toys, appliances and goods, appliances and white goods, kitchen items and accessories, gift items, confectionery, candy, home furnishings, tapestries, utensils, gold and jewelry, footwear , watches, furniture, household goods, clothing, fashion clothing, fabrics, home decor items were among the most purchased items on Diwali, he said.

It should be noted that CAIT has been conducting a campaign to boycott Chinese products in the country. In early June this year, just days after the violent clashes in the Galwan Valley in which 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives, CAIT urged the Center and the Indian citizens to boycott all Chinese companies.
