Tower damage case: Airtel writes to DoT, says Jio’s charges against him are ‘unfounded, scandalous’

NEW DELHI: After JioAlleged allegations that rival telco channel partners were inciting and provoking agitators involved in tower disruption, Airtel has released a letter to the telecommunications department criticizing the charges as unfounded and scandalous.
Airtel has told the department of telecommunications (DoT) that Jio’s accusations against him did not show any evidence that Bharti had anything to do with the current problems facing the company, and that the complaint should be dismissed “with contempt. it deserves”. .
Airtel’s letter to the telecommunications secretary Anshu Prakash said the company is aware of a complaint filed by Trust Jio to the department dated December 28, referring to the interruption of RJIL (Reliance Jio) services due to protests by farmers in Punjab and Haryana.
Airtel noted that Jio had made a similar accusation in a letter to the telecoms regulator in early December to which the company had responded.
“The unfounded accusation made by Jio that Airtel is behind the agitation of farmers to ‘sabotage’ their network and force customers to switch to Airtel is therefore simply outrageous.” Bharti airtelRegulatory Director Rahul Vatts said in the letter to the Defense Department dated Dec. 28.
Airtel added that Jio’s complaint does not show any evidence that Airtel has anything to do with the current problems that Jio is facing.
“In fact, we are amused at how Jio can even believe that Airtel would be so omnipotent as to force customers out of Jio. If we had this power, we would have wielded it for the past three years when Jio accumulated a large number of customers. “Airtel said.
Jio’s letter to the DoT stated that “most of the ongoing sabotage and damage to the RJIL network in Punjab, Haryana and some other parts of the country is the result of the blatant efforts of some of Airtel’s distributors, retailers and channel partners. and VIL in a malicious and inciting campaign to capitalize on the ongoing farmers’ protest. ”
Jio had said that the goal of the campaign was to disrupt their services and take advantage of these disruptions to promote mobile number portability to other networks.
Jio has said in his letter that “the evidence clearly and irreproachably demonstrates the direct involvement of the channel partners of Airtel and VIL in these interruptions, as well as the ineffectiveness of Airtel and VIL (Vodafone Idea) to control them.”
An email sent by PTI to Reliance Jio on the matter did not get a response.
Meanwhile, dismissing the charges against him, Airtel said that Jio’s complaint against the company was “in bad taste” and urged the telecommunications department to dismiss this complaint “with the contempt it deserves.”
“We have seen a story of Jio going out of his way to make baseless accusations, adopt intimidation tactics and use intimidating behavior to suit his purposes and achieve his goals. This is another example,” Airtel said in his letter to the Defense Department.
Airtel said it has operated in the telecommunications industry for 25 years, during which time it has competed hard in the market to serve customers with excellence. The telecommunications firm stated that it has always conducted business with character and transparency.
“The irony of the situation is that while the operational teams had several conversations over the past few days about how to support Jio’s teams based on their request, Jio was actually spending time writing frivolous letters and making defamatory accusations,” he said. Airtel. said.
Airtel said it strongly condemns anyone who disrupts telecommunications networks or services to customers.
“Telecommunications is an essential infrastructure and we believe that it is against the law to carry out such acts. In fact, we have always advocated strong government action to guarantee the continuity of 100% of the networks,” he added.
He urged the DoT to come up with a policy to require ICR (In-Circle Roaming) in situations of vandalism and network outages as a matter of course so that customers are never disturbed.
