New Delhi:
The National Green Court has imposed a total ban on the sale and use of firecrackers in Delhi and adjacent areas from midnight November 9 to November 30.
The order will apply to more than two dozen districts in four states that are part of the National Capital Region (NCR), as well as “cities and towns where average ambient air quality in November last year was” poor. ” or worse, “said the green court.
Only green cookies, considered less polluting, will be sold in cities and towns where air quality is “moderate” or lower, the court ordered that also restricts the hours of use of cookies.
“Cookie usage and popping times will be limited to two hours during festivals, such as Diwali, Chhatt, New Years Eve, Christmas Eve, etc., as specified by the state in question. If the state does not specify anything, the time it will be from 8 to 10 pm on Diwali and Gurupurb, from 6 am to 8 am in Chhatt and from 11.55 pm to 12.30 am during Christmas and New Year’s Eve, “the order said.
The National Green Court order came in a petition seeking action against air pollution from the use of firecrackers in NCR during the time when air quality is not satisfactory with the potential for severity of the COVID pandemic. 19.
The request concerned the statement by the Union Minister of Health and the Delhi Minister of Health that during the holiday season there will be an increase in COVID-19 cases due to air pollution.
“Increased pollution may further affect vulnerable groups and increase the death rate. COVID-19 cases in Delhi can reach 15,000 per day, compared to current cases of about 5,000 per day.
“The use of green crackers will not remedy the situation. The smoke will suffocate and can create a gas chamber-like situation. It will lead to poor visibility, hazy conditions and suffocation,” the statement said.
Delhi is currently in the midst of a third wave and recorded 7,745 cases in the past 24 hours, the second time in three days.
