Total Active Covid Cases in Maharashtra Now Well Ahead of Government Projections | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: The total number of Covid cases in the state rose to 29.5 lakh on Saturday, and the total number of deaths was 55,656.
BMC Additional Commissioner Suresh Kakani said that although cases in the city exceeded 9,000, mortality remains low. “With 27 deaths, the daily death rate is less than 0.27. We are alert. All of our major hospitals have been told to make more beds available for Covid care and to take note of the time elapsed from onset of symptoms to admission and work on them, ”he said.

Total active cases in the state on Saturday was well ahead of projections made by the public health department 10 days ago. According to projections released by the department on March 23, the state was to have 28.4 lakh of cases on April 4, 64,613 deaths and just over 3 lakh of active cases.

The state’s total number of cases as of April 3 was 29.5 lakh, and active cases have crossed the 4 lakh mark. The only positive is that deaths are well below projected figures. “These projections were based on the fatality rate (CFR) and the weekly growth rate at that time. Since the growth rate is increasing due to increased testing, CFR is decreasing, ”said a senior official.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) added 15,989 cases and 58 deaths on Saturday, the highest in the state. Total cases in the region reached 9.3 lakh and deaths stood at 20,578.

In the Kalyan-Dombivli belt, the highest count of 1,244 cases and four deaths was recorded on Saturday. A KDMC health official said: “Even though cases are increasing in the twin city, what is relieving is that we have maintained a low patient death rate of 1.5%.”
Meanwhile, state Health Minister Rajesh Tope sent Nashik’s civil surgeon Dr. Ratna Raokhande on compulsory leave at the request of the district’s guardian minister, Chhagan Bhujbal, who was unhappy with Raokhande’s work. to deal with the Covid situation in Nashik.
