Tollywood actor Chiranjeevi said on Monday that he had tested positive for the coronavirus. On Twitter, Chiranjeevi wrote: “I did a COVID-19 test before resuming the ‘Acharya’ session as protocol and unfortunately it tested positive. I am currently asymptomatic and self-quarantined at home. Please ask everyone who knew me at the last days to also undergo COVID-19 tests. I will update you soon on my recovery. “
The development comes days after he met with Telangana’s chief minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao, along with actor Akkineni Nagarjuna. Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna donated Rs one crore and Rs 50 lakh respectively to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) after heavy rains flooded Hyderabad. The actors were seen removing their masks as they handed the checks to the Chief Minister of Telangana.
Meanwhile, Telangana reported 857 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the total count to 2.51 lakh, while four more deaths brought the figure to 1,381, the state government said Monday. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) region accounted for the most new cases with 250, followed by neighboring districts of Rangareddy (88) and Medchal Malkajgiri (61), the state government said in a bulletin, providing details at 8 pm Sunday.
Currently, the state has 19,239 active cases. In total, 46.42 lakh of samples have been analyzed. The fatality rate in the state was 0.54%, while at the national level it was 1.5%, the bulletin said, adding that the recovery rate in Telangana was 91.79%, while in the country it was 92.5%. The number of people in home and institutional isolation throughout the state is 16,449.
Earlier this week, a 2020-21 mid-year financial review by KCR revealed that the state has suffered an overall revenue shortfall of Rs 52.750 crore due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
