NEW DELHI: Mamata banerjee, which is preparing for a major showdown with a determined BJP in next year’s assembly elections, is fighting challenges on several fronts.
The Trinamool chief, who has seen the exodus of several key leaders in the run-up to the elections, lost another MLA party today. But this is not the only challenge you face. The Union Ministry of the Interior is asking your government some tough questions about the state of law and order.
Also, there are strong races in which some heavyweights who have left Trinamool will join the BJP in the presence of Amit Shah, who will be in Bengal for the weekend.

Another MLA leaves the Trinamool Congress

On Friday afternoon, TMC leader Kabirul Islam resigned as general secretary of the party’s minority cell.

Earlier in the day, TMC MLA Silbhadra Datta had resigned from the party.

TMC MLA Jitendra Tiwari resigns as head of the Asansol Municipal Corporation, days after accusing the West Bengal government of depriving the industrial city of central funds. He has also resigned as TMC Chairman of the Paschim Bardhaman District.

On Wednesday, TMC leader Suvendu Adhikari submitted his resignation as an MLA. He was the MLA of the Nandigram constituency in the Purba Medinipur district. He had resigned from the state cabinet last month.

Spokesperson rejects Adhikari’s resignation

West Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee refused to accept Suvendu Adhikari’s resignation.

“I have examined the letter and found that the date is not specified in it. I have not been informed that your resignation (Suvendu Adhikari) is voluntary and genuine. Therefore, it is not possible to accept it. I have asked you to appear before me on December 21, “Banerjee said. Adhikari had resigned on Thursday.

Banerjee added that he has not accepted Adhikari’s resignation as it does not conform to the provisions of the Constitution and House rules.

Z-category security for Adhikari

The Interior Ministry provided category ‘Z’ security cover to former West Bengal Minister Suvendu Adhikari.

Adhikari has been awarded the highest security category while based in West Bengal. The CRPF will equip it with bulletproof vehicles. However, when you are outside of West Bengal, the CRPF will provide you with Y-plus security coverage.

The Ministry of the Interior conducts a videoconference with the main officials of West Bengal

A video conference was held between the Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla and West Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay and Virendra Police Director General on Friday evening.

The video conference was scheduled after a letter from the Home Office asked the two Bengali officials to go to New Delhi to meet with the Home Secretary. Both officials conveyed their inability to travel to the national capital.

On December 14, the secretary general and the DGP were summoned by the Interior Ministry after receiving a report on December 11 from the state governor, Jagdeep Dhankhar, on the state of law and order in the state.

TMC Rebel Leader Jitendra Tiwari Refuses Rumors of Joining BJP

A day after resigning as head of the Asansol civic body and chairman of the TMC district, the rebel party leader Jitendra Tiwari rejected rumors of joining the BJP. Attacking the ruling party for taking away its security, Tiwari said the government took the step because it failed to realize its value.

SC grants provisional protection to BJP leaders

The Supreme Court granted provisional protection to five BJP leaders, including Mukul Roy and MPs Kailash Vijayvargiya and Arjun Singh, in criminal cases brought against them in West Bengal and ordered the state police not to take any coercive action.

The court sought the response from the West Bengal government on five separate allegations brought by BJP leaders alleging the imposition of criminal cases to dissuade them from political activities and said provisional protection against coercive action will continue until the next hearing date.

TMC is breaking free from traitors, says TMC

Following the resignations of TMC leaders, former TMC minister Madan Mitra said the party is freeing itself from traitors.

“The men can come, the men can leave, but the party will always remain. They don’t know what mistakes they are making. The BJP is not a trustworthy party. They have destroyed everything,” he said.
