TMC government in Bengal pledged to defend human rights: Mamata | India News


CALCUTTA: west bengal Chief Minister Mamata banerjee on Thursday he claimed that democracy was being swept away and voices muzzled in the country, and promised that his government I was committed to defending human rights.
On Twitter, the CM, on the occasion of Human Rights Day, said that its government has created 19 human rights courts in the last nine and a half years.
“Today is Human Rights Day. Today, there is a great tendency to demolish democracy, crush fundamental rights and muzzle the voice of the people. Our government is committed to defending human rights,” he tweeted.

Banerjee, who is also the head of TMC, said that the human rights commission was established in West Bengal in 1995 after their repeated protests and movements.
“The GoWB has created 19 human rights courts in the last nine and half-year. It was after repeated protests and movements of mine that the West Bengal Human Rights Commission was created in 1995. Best wishes to all, “he added.

Human Rights Day is celebrated globally each year on December 10 to honor the United Nations General AssemblyAdoption and proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) on this day in 1948.
