‘Time to stop blaming EVM’: Karti Chidambaram to skeptics in Congress

Congress appears to be the weak link in the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan alliance as poll leads from Bihar roll in, putting the big party in a not-so-comfortable position or numbers. Amid questions raised in some quarters about the reliability of electronic voting machines, or EVMs, Congressional Leader Karti Chidambaram said emphatically that “it is time to stop blaming the EVM.”

“Whatever the outcome of any election, it is time to stop blaming EVM. In my experience, the EVM system is robust, accurate and reliable, ”said Karti Chidambaram, son of senior leader P Chidambaram.

“There have been skeptics of the EVM from all political parties, particularly when the results are not in their favor. Until now no one has scientifically proven their claims, “added the leader.

After the ruling NDA took an initial lead from the grand alliance, consisting of RJD, Congress, and the three left-wing parties, in polling trends for Bihar, Congressional leader Udit Raj raised questions about the reliability of the EVMs, asking why they can’t be hacked the satellites can be controlled from the ground.

He also asked if Donald Trump could have lost in the US elections if EVM had been used.

“If the direction of the satellites to Mars and the Moon can be controlled from the ground, then why can’t EVM be hacked,” Udit Raj said in a Hindi tweet.

“If the elections had been held in the United States with EVM, Trump could have lost,” he asked.

Dalit leader Udit Raj is the national spokesperson for the Congress party. He was a former BJP deputy from Delhi.

However, left-wing parties, allied in the mahagathbandhan, lead in 18 of the 29 seats they contested at the polls after the first rounds of vote counting, according to the Election Commission (EC) website.

In alliance with the RJD, Tejashwi Yadav awarded 29 seats to the three left-wing parties, despite the reluctance of party members. While the CPI (M) won four seats, the CPI won six and the CPI-ML (Liberation) 19.

The counting of votes in Bihar will take longer due to 63 percent more EVM than the 2015 Bihar surveys, as the Covid-19 protocol needed more voting booths, ECI officials said. The count will continue until late at night, the lead survey body said.

In Madhya Pradesh, Congressional Leader Digvijaya Singh also claimed that EVMs “are not tamper-proof.”

“EVMs are not tamper-proof and they do selective manipulations. There are seats that we would not have lost under any circumstances but we did so by thousands of votes. Tomorrow we will hold a meeting and analyze the results, ”Digvijaya Singh said, according to the PTI news agency.

The BJP led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Madhya Pradesh is leading in 20 of the 28 Assembly constituencies for which by-elections were held while Congress is ahead by seven seats, according to trends on the day of count, PTI reported.
