A major plane crash was averted Monday night after a TruJet plane landed face down at Chennai International Airport. The flight had been diverted to Chennai from its original route from Belgaum to Mysore, but was unable to land safely.
Chennai airport officials said the incident took place around 7.51 pm when the diverted flight made an emergency landing in Chennai. “The flight was diverted to Chennai for technical reasons,” the official said on condition of anonymity.
“A TruJet aircraft (ATR-72) operating as 2T 543 is an ex-Jet Airways aircraft. It operated from Belgaum and was approaching Mysore. However, he missed the approach and the pilot decided to divert to Chennai. It is suspected that it is a problem with the landing gear due to the plane making a forced landing in Chennai. “
There were 46 passengers on board, including an infant and five crew members. While passengers and crew members were safely evacuated, main runway 07-25 was unavailable for flight operations for about 45 minutes. This led to detours and flight delays.

Arun Kumar, DGCA Director General, said that the investigation into this matter has started. “No injuries have been reported and the cause of the incident will be known once the investigation is complete.”
However, Snehamoy Deb, an aviation fanatic, tweeted: “The pilot suspected of a landing gear problem received an indication, took a low step and declared an emergency, after the landing gear touched the fuselage and he deviated but did not leave the track.
