The total number of active cases in Kerala rose to 20 on Sunday after seven new positive Covid-19 cases were confirmed in the state, Health Minister K.K. said. Shailaja Of the seven new positive cases reported today, two are from Thrissur and one from Malappuram and arrived in the state from Abu Dhabi on May 7.
The first Air India Express flight carrying Indian nationals from Abu Dhabi landed at the airport here on Thursday night as part of the largest Indian government repatriation exercise in its history to bring back its stranded citizens abroad in means of blocking international travel due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Air India Express Flight IX 452 with 181 passengers landed at Cochin International Airport (CIAL) at 10:09 pm Thursday. There were 49 pregnant women and four babies among the 181 passengers.
She said four more people recovered on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 489 in the southern state.
The stores remained closed and the vehicles were off the roads in Kerala when the state government order for the complete closure on Sundays came into effect from the morning as part of efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The government on the left issued a “statewide statewide shutdown on Sundays” Saturday night, while exempting stores that sell essential items and services.
While Prime Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had said on Friday that Kerala had “flattened the curve” after the state recorded single-digit cases, two new cases, expatriates who had returned to the state from Abu Dhabi and Dubai on Saturday. They had tested positive on Saturday. On Saturday, it caused concern as more than four lakh people had registered on the NORKA portal that they wanted to return to the state.
Roads remained empty across the state and stores were closed except for those that sold essentials such as milk and medicine.
Hospitals, laboratories and the media, among others, may operate on Sundays.
