India is now the acquisition of approximately 75% of its testing kits from the national manufacturers, authorities said Wednesday.
While the number of samples analyzed crossed 1 lakh for the second day on Tuesday, efforts are on to further increase the control journal, maybe even double that at the end of June.
In the middle of the projections of the increased cases in June-July, the self-sufficiency in the test kits is an important part of the government of the Covid-19 of the strategy.
“In the first half of April, we were struggling a little with the sources. But today, that has changed in two ways — the offer has improved and we have also proactively taken steps to reduce the import dependence of our tests. To help us move forward, we make sure to handle all of the organizations that can produce the RNA extraction kits and VTM (viral transport medium) kits. I would say that more than 75% of the supplies from domestic manufacturers and new players are coming in every day,” said C K Mishra, Secretary of Environment and chairman of the special group in hospitals, quarantine facilities, disease surveillance, testing, and critical care.

While the RNA extraction kits and VTM kits are required for the preparation of samples, the RT-PCR kit is necessary to carry out the test.
Currently, four of the six VTM providers and five of the eight RNA extraction kit suppliers are domestic manufacturers. Of the 28 companies whose RT-PCR kits have been approved by icmr, 14 are domestic firms. The Centre has given freedom to the states to seek their own test kits.

Meanwhile, the total number of cases across the country has touched 1,06,750, of which 5,611 cases have been registered in the last 24 hours. With more than 140 deaths, the number of victims is now 3,303 while 42,297 have been recovered. With 1,08,121 samples that are being tested in the last 24 hours, the total number of tests he has played 25,12,388. The current sample rate of positivity is about 4%.
Responding to a question on whether India has planned to change its policy for the use of hydroxychloroquine for the treatment and post-exposure prophylaxis, Dr R R Gangakhedkar, chief of epidemiology and infectious diseases at icmr, said: “We are considering the evidence, we will take a call on it.”

In a new comparison, the Ministry of Health said in a statement: “in Comparison with the global scale, where there is 62.3 cases per lakh, India still has only 7.9 cases/ lakh population. In the same way, for the mortality per lakh of the population, while the global index is 4.2, the India, the figure is 0.2. The relatively low death figures represent timely case identification and clinical management of cases.”
