New Delhi:
Three Maoists were killed when shooting began during a search operation by security forces in the Gaya district of Bihar around midnight on Saturday.
Among those killed in the exchange of fire was Maoist zone commander Alok Yadav.
Troops from 205 CoBRA (Command Battalion for Resolute Action) and the Bihar Police also recovered an AK-47 rifle and an INSAS rifle from the meeting place.
The meeting took place in the Barachatti forest area in the Gaya district of Bihar, about 100 kilometers from the state capital, Patna.
According to an official statement, the security forces began the search operation around 12:20 in the morning after Yadav was reported to have killed two people in the area.
“There was an exchange of fire between 205 CoBRA commandos and Maoists in the Mahuri village area earlier today when a cultural program was taking place near a temple,” the official statement said.
The search operation is underway and more information is expected.
The CoBRA or the Battalion Command for Resolute Action is a special jungle warfare unit of the Central Reserve Police Force that is deployed to the state for anti-Maoist operations.
