Three people were charred to death when their four-wheeler caught fire after colliding with a dump truck in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district early Saturday, a police officer said.
The accident happened in Bhauransa on the Bhopal-Indore highway, about 14 kilometers from the district headquarters, he said.
“The accident occurred around 1.30 am when a tempo traveler collided head-on with a dump truck coming from the wrong side,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kiran Sharma.
After the accident, both vehicles caught fire, he said.
“The dump truck driver fled the scene, but three people in the traveling time were trapped inside the vehicle and died charred,” he added.
His vehicle was completely destroyed before firefighters could reach the scene. The front of the dump truck also burned, Sharma said.
The deceased were identified as Shyam Mali (45), Pappu Thakur (32) and Shivnarayan Namdeo (50), all residents of Ujjain.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent for autopsy and the investigation is ongoing, he said.
