CALCUTTA: west bengal chief minister Mamata banerjee on Friday he issued a stern warning against “anti-party activities” and said TMC leaders in contact with the opposition are free to resign from the ruling party in the state.
Although the TMC supreme did not take any names, party sources said his mockery was against the disgruntled leader. Suvendu Adhikari, who has recently resigned from his cabinet, and some other members of Parliament who have spoken out against the party’s top brass.
“At a party meeting held during the day, Banerjee said that if a leader leaves the party, he can create a lakh of such leaders,” said a senior TMC leader on condition of anonymity.
He also spoke with Suvendu Adhikari’s father and Purba Medinipur’s head of TMC and Kanthi’s MP. Sisir Adhikari and asked him to halt anti-party activities and expel “traitors” from the party’s district unit.
“Sisir da said he will investigate,” said the TMC leader.
Banerjee extended his support for the agitation of farmers in North India against the new agricultural laws and called on the TMC Farmers Wing to organize a three-day demonstration in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the center of Kolkata since December 8.
“He said that anti-party activities will not be tolerated and those in contact with the opposition camp are free to leave the party.”
“Banerjee said that those in the TMC have to abide by the norms and rules set out in the party constitution and no one is above the party,” said the TMC leader.
Sending a strong message to a section of party leaders who have spoken out against the leadership and government, Banerjee said during the video conference with TMC leaders that those who speak out against the party are free to go instead. to “weaken it from within.” .
The rift between the TMC and Suvendu Adhikari widened on Thursday, with the party describing the rapprochement efforts as a “closed chapter” and the disgruntled leader taking shots to the neck.
During the four-hour party meeting that began at 2 p.m. Friday, Banerjee spoke about how the TMC was built from the ground up in 1998 and recounted the first days of fighting.
It also unveiled a new outreach program ‘Bangodhwani‘(voice of West Bengal) to inform people about the development work undertaken by the TMC government during the 10 years of its rule in the state, the sources said.
During the outreach program, which will run from December 11-24, party leaders and cadres will reach out to people in every corner of the state.
Elections for the 294-member West Bengal assembly are to be held between April and May next year.
