Police in the Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh raided a spice manufacturing unit on Tuesday after a notice suggested the factory had been producing spices adulterated with fake ingredients.

According to a Times of India report, the factory owner named Anoop Varshney has been arrested and the factory itself has been sealed.

During the raid in the Navipur area of ​​the district, the police found various spices including red chili powder, garam masala, coriander powder, turmeric and others. However, all of these spices were made from fake ingredients like donkey manure, artificial colors that are inedible, and even acidic and hay. They also mixed local brands.

The police have taken about 27 samples from the factory and sent them to laboratories for analysis. Once the test results are confirmed, a case will be brought against the owner under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

Police said they also seized about 300 kg of “fake spices” from the factory.
