Thiruvananthapuram prepares for 21-year mayor | India News


Arya Rajendran, 21, a math undergraduate student who faced her first elections in the local body as a voter and as a candidate in Thiruvananthapuram corporate elections, will become the youngest corporation mayor in Kerala, and one of the youngest mayors in the country.
Before Rajendran, Suman Koli had become mayor of Bharatpur Corporation in Rajasthan at the age of 21 in 2009. Nuthan Rathore was elected Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Firozabad, UP, in 2017 when she was 31 years old. The country has also had other young mayors. Sanjeev naik became mayor of Navi Mumbai at the age of 23 in 1995.

Rajendran was elected mayoral candidate at the CPM district secretary meeting on Friday. A formal announcement is expected on Saturday. Their victory in the December 28 poll is a foregone conclusion, as LDF has 53 seats on the 100-member council, while BJP and UDF have 35 and 10 seats respectively.
His father, an electrician by profession, is an active CPM worker. His mother is a homemaker and LIC agent. Arya said that she had not yet been officially informed about her candidacy, but was willing to take on any task. She was elected to the Mudavanmugal neighborhood council of corporations and was sworn in on December 21.
