The Delhi High Court on Thursday criticized the government led by the Aam Aadmi Party in the national capital for increasing cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19). Attacking the government for the delay in taking steps to control the spread, the high court said: “They pulled you out of sleep, you became a turtle after we asked questions.”
“Why did you wait 18 days to restrict the number of wedding attendees? How many died of Covid-19 during this period? “The high court also questioned the Delhi government, according to the PTI news agency. The court also noted that the amount of the fine for not wearing masks and not maintaining social distancing does not appear to be a deterrent.
He said there appeared to be a substantial disparity in monitoring and imposing fines in certain districts compared to others.
“What kind of monitoring and classification are you doing? Look at the situation seriously with a magnifying glass. You have crossed cities like New York and Sao Paolo, ”the court said.
On Wednesday, the Delhi government put a cap on the number of attendees that will be allowed to attend a wedding, as Covid-19 cases are on the rise in the city. Now, only 50 people will be allowed at weddings in Delhi, compared to a limit of 200.
Deputy Prime Minister Manish Sisodia said Lieutenant Governor (LG) Anil Baijal has given his approval for the revised cap.
