There is no shortage of oxygen anywhere today: Ministry of Health | India News

NEW DELHI: There has never been an oxygen shortage in the country in the last 10 months and there has been no shortage today, the Health Ministry said Tuesday.
At a press conference, the Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that daily production capacity increased to 6,862 metric tons in September and is forecast to increase further to 7,191 metric tons by the end of October.
To clarify further, Bhushan said: “As of September 1, 2020, a total of 43,022 Covid-19 patients were receiving oxygen support. This increased to 75,098 in the third week of September and then started to decline and currently stands at about 57,000.
“The installed capacity and the daily supply of oxygen is much higher than that,” said the secretary.
“We are in a very comfortable position,” Bhusan said, assuring that the government has taken various measures in recent months, including uninterrupted oxygen supply, increased infrastructure and coordination with states.
He said that the Center has begun the process of installing 246 oxygen generation plants in 18 states and territories of the union in the first phase. “150 more plants of this type would be installed in 30 states and UT,” he said, presenting a plan for the states in the second phase.
While answering a question at the ministry’s weekly press conference, Dr. Balram Bhargava, director general of the ICMR, warned that “patients who have recovered from Covid-19 may be re-infected by the virus once antibodies from viral disease start to wear off. ”
“According to the Center for Disease Control, you call it reinfection (from Covid-19) if the person is reinfected after 90 days from turning negative for Sars-CoV-2 after testing positive, “added Bhargava.
According to the ministry, India registered fewer than 50,000 new cases of Covid-19 in one day in less than three months. India reported 46,791 new Covid-19 cases and 587 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 75,97,064, according to the Health Ministry.
“The Covid-19 case fatality rate has decreased from 1.77% on September 1 to 1.52% to date,” the secretary said, adding that India leads the recovery account with more than 67 lakh of recoveries. .
In its statement, the ministry said that India is the second country in the number of tests conducted for the detection of Covid-19 so far in any country.
