NEW DELHI: The Union Ministry The Finance Department clarified on Saturday that there is no restriction or ban on filling government positions. Normal hiring through various agencies such as staff selection commission, the railway contracting board will continue as usual without any brake.
The clarification ends any fears about a blanket ban on government jobs. “The circular of the Expenditure Department dated September 4, 2020, deals with the internal procedure for the creation of positions and in no way affects or restricts hiring,” the Ministry of Finance said on the microblogging site Twitter.

The clarification was in response to a department of order of expenses to all ministries and departments that request the prohibition of the creation of new posts in ministries and departments, attached offices, subordinate offices, statutory bodies and autonomous bodies, except with the approval of the department. The prohibition, according to the order, will cover all the creation of positions under powers that have been relegated to any organization regardless of the source of such authority or power.
If positions have been created after July 1, 2020 under delegated power or authority without the approval of the spending department and have not yet been filled, those positions will not be filled, the spending department said in unveiling new austerity measures on Friday. . The order had raised concerns that hiring for government jobs would be banned at a time when there is a need to create jobs.
