Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday rejected the opposition BJP’s demand for a package from the state government to tide over the COVID-19 of the crisis, saying that the earlier such measures had not been able to give concrete benefits.
During an online briefing earlier in the day, the CM stressed on the need to create more health centers and offer treatment to people, along with the distribution of food grains.
“Previously, the packages worth lakhs of crores of rupees were given, but very little impact was seen on the ground,” he said.
Meanwhile, the CM said the ‘Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Aarogya Scheme” the state government will cover all the people, who seek treatment at the address of the hospitals.
Commenting on the status of efforts by the government to help the homeless, migrant workers, Mr. Thackeray said, “We are taking good care of these workers and their ticket fare is also borne by the government. We are even providing meals to only 5 rupees a plate under the Shiv Bhojan regime”.
He said that around 5 to 6 lakh workers from other member states; it provides breakfast and two meals in shelters.
“The state government never felt any kind of burden to these workers, but they wanted to go back to their states of origin, and after obtaining due sanctions nearly seven lakh workers have been sent back in 481 Shramik trains,” he said.
Mr Thackeray said that if the Union government pays 85 percent of the cost of the tickets for these workers or delays, the government of Maharashtra has paid 100% of the fare of the tickets worth more than Rs 85 millions of rupees.
“Despite the fact that our demand for the operation of the 80 (Shramik Special) trains per day, we are getting only 30 to 40 trains for sending workers back to their states,” he said.
A total of 3.80 lakh migrant workers have been transported to the borders of their states or to the railway stations in more than 32,000 ST bus, which has cost Rs 75 crore, the CM said.
He said that a total of 70,000 industries have been allowed to resume operations in the midst of the crash, and 50,000 of them have started operations with six lakh people.
