NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a prayer meeting for the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi on your birth anniversary on Friday at Gandhi smriti in New Delhi and said there is much to learn from “his noble life and thoughts”.

The Prime Minister paid a floral tribute to Gandhi and paid his respects to the leader. He tweeted on the occasion of the 151st anniversary of Gandhi’s birth saying that there is much to learn from “his noble life and thoughts.”
“We bow down to beloved Bapu in Gandhi jayanti. There is much to learn from his life and his noble thoughts. May Bapu’s ideals continue to guide us in creating a compassionate and prosperous India, “the prime minister tweeted.
Born on October 2, 1869 in the city of Porbandar of Gujarat, Mahatma Gandhi or Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi adopted non-violent resistance and were the vanguard of the freedom struggle against colonial British rule with the greatest patience.
This led to India finally achieving its independence in 1947. Affectionately known as Bapu, his unwavering faith in ‘Swaraj’ (self-government) and ‘Ahimsa’ (non-violence) earned him accolades around the world.
Worldwide, the anniversary of Gandhi’s birth is celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence.
