New Delhi:
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exams for classes 10 and 12 will not be held until the end of February, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal said Tuesday during an interaction with teachers.
However, he added that the board’s reviews would be held later, but did not indicate when the dates would be announced after assessing the coronavirus situation.
Unlike classes, the board’s exams would not be held online as “many schools are in rural areas,” the minister said, adding that the exams would not be postponed either.
“We cannot allow COVID-19 to affect students and to be labeled as COVID-era students who passed classes without any exams. We have organized JEE, NEET exams this year. It was one of the most important exams conducted in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, “said Mr. Pokhriyal in response to a professor’s query.
“The CBSE board examinations will be conducted with a reduced syllabus. Thirty percent of the total syllabus has been eliminated. While some states have declared it, others are likely to make an announcement soon. Also there will be 33% internal options in the exam, “the minister said in an online interaction with stakeholders.
Tuesday’s webinar was intended to answer questions about whether the CBSE board exams would be conducted online or offline and addresses the concerns of teachers shared on Twitter.
The interaction was initially scheduled for December 17, but was postponed after the overwhelming response from teachers amid the coronavirus pandemic as most schools in every state have been closed since March of this year.
