Lucknow:
The wife and 22-year-old son of a senior railway official were found dead with gunshot wounds at their home located in a high-security area of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Saturday. The officer’s daughter was unharmed but traumatized, they said. The residential building where the incident occurred is located a few meters from the prime minister’s official bungalow.
The railway official was reportedly in the national capital, where he is stationed, when the incident occurred at his official home in Gautampalli, Lucknow.
Police said the incident does not appear to be a robbery gone wrong. They also said that the victims had interacted with staff at their home in the morning, hours before being found dead.
“He is a senior railroad officer. They found the body of his wife and son. They were shot dead. Prima facie, it does not look like a robbery (loot) case. We are investigating the case,” said Sujit Pandey, Police Commissioner, Lucknow he told reporters.
“The son is between 20 and 22 years old. The daughter is not injured but is in trauma. Both bodies were found in bed. They had met with servants in the morning, this incident happened later,” he added.
The daughter has been admitted to a Lucknow hospital, police said.
Gautampalli is the most prominent area of the UP capital, where several ministers and senior officials reside. Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the governor, also falls in this area. It is among the most protected regions in the state with a strong 24-hour police presence.
