The Supreme Court instructions came as several states, especially in the northern part of the country, reported an increase in the number of new coronavirus cases.
The high court said it was informed that the Covid situation in the country is grim and will likely worsen in December.

“Things have gotten worse in Delhi, especially in November. You submit a status report on the measures that have been taken, ”a bench of judges Ashok Bhushan, RS Reddy and MR Shah told Additional Attorney General Sanjay Jain, who was appearing for the Delhi government.
The bank said that all states and the Union government must take adequate and appropriate measures to combat the situation.

The supreme court detained Gujarat for allowing weddings and gatherings despite the rise in Covid-19 cases, noting that it is the worst-hit state after Delhi and Maharashtra.
The bank released the matter for hearing on Friday.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to review the pandemic situation with all the senior ministers. During the meeting, the prime minister is also likely to discuss the launch of the vaccine program in the states, according to the sources.
Several states in the northern part of India reported a high positivity rate (confirmed cases per 100 tests), between 10% and more than 15%, and emerged as new coronavirus hot spots.
These states have shown an increase in the positivity rate indicating that more people are infected and fewer tests are being done. The exceptions are Kerala, Goa and West Bengal, where the disease has slowed down somewhat compared to last month, but they still remain in the danger zone.
Maharashtra, with a positivity rate of 8% during the last fortnight, has shown a significant improvement, as it has been constantly around 18% during the last months. The number of confirmed cases in West Bengal and Chhattisgarh has slowed but nonetheless the two states have a positivity rate of over 7-8%.
Relaxation of lockdown measures in these states remains risky, as a WHO advisory says a positivity rate of 5% or more over a 14-day period puts a state in the red zone.
