A police officer said an architect and his mother committed suicide in 2018 over alleged non-payment of fees by Republic TV. Speaking to Zee Media, CIU inspector Sachin Vaje said that Arnab has been arrested under Section 306 and Section 34 of the IPC.
Interior designer Anvay Naik, along with his mother Kumud Naik, committed suicide in their bungalow in Alibaug in May 2018. Raigad police had recovered a suicide note after this incident that was believed to have been written by Anvay. In the suicide note, Anvay wrote that Arnab Goswami, Feroz Shaikh from IcastX / Skimedia and Niteish Sarda from Smartworks had not paid him Rs 5.40 crore, causing him serious financial problems. Raigad police are also known to have arrested Shaikh and Sarda.
Anvay was found hanging on the first floor, while Kumud’s body was found by the police on the ground floor. During the investigation of this case, the police discovered that Anvay had a large debt and found it very difficult to pay back the contractors.

In May, Anvay’s daughter urged Maharashtra’s Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh to reopen the case. “Adnya Naik had complained to me that the Alibaug police had not investigated Arnab Goswami’s non-payment of public fees, leading his businessman father and grandmother to suicide in May 2018. I ordered a new investigation of the case for part of the CID, “Deshmukh had tweeted in May.
