The only state in India that does not report any deaths from Covid-19 so far, records the first death


Amid the decline in the number of cases and deaths from the new coronavirus across the country, there is quite unexpected news from the only Indian state that has yet to report a single virus-related death.

Mizoram, which is the only state in the country that has not reported a single Covid death since the pandemic hit the country several months ago, recorded its first death today.

On Wednesday, Mizoram’s Covid-19 count rose to 2,607, as 80 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said.

Sixty-three of the 80 new cases have been transmitted locally, the official said.

A woman tested positive for coronavirus again a few days after being discharged from a Covid-19 care center in Aizawl, he said.

Mizoram now has 374 active cases of coronavirus, while 2,233 people have been cured of the disease so far, the official said.

The recovery rate among Covid-19 patients in the state is 85.66%, he said.

The state has analyzed 1,07,812 samples for Covid-19 so far, the official added.

Meanwhile, the Mizoram government said on Monday that the blockade will be imposed in the Aizwal Municipal Corporation area from 4:30 a.m. on October 26 to 4:30 a.m. on November 3 amid an increase in cases of new coronavirus.

The decision was made after the state health minister and the interior minister chaired an emergency meeting today in the context of an increase in COVID-19 cases in the state.

“An emergency meeting under the presidency of the Minister of Health and the Minister of the Interior held today decided to impose the blockade within the area of ​​the Aizawl Municipal Council (AMC), after obtaining the due consent of CM. The blockade will begin at 4 : 30 am tomorrow until 4:30 am on Nov 3, “the state administration said in a statement.
