OnePlus used to be one of the few Android OEMs shipping new phones without nonessential apps. But that changed with the launch of the OnePlus 8 Series and OnePlus Nord earlier this year. OxygenOS on the OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8 Pro, and OnePlus Nord came with the Facebook app installer, Facebook app manager, and Facebook services installed as system apps, along with the main Facebook app, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and Netflix. The company faced a backlash due to this, and it appears to have changed course with the new OnePlus 8T.
OnePlus 8T review: the T update that makes sense
According to a recent report by Entry, the OnePlus 8T does not come with the Facebook apps and services pre-installed. Netflix is the only third-party app pre-installed on the device that has been installed to enhance HDR video playback, the company claims. The post reached out to OnePlus regarding the matter and a company spokesperson confirmed that OnePlus stopped pre-installing Facebook apps and services for the foreseeable future. However, the company made no commitment to never pre-install such bloatware on its devices, so we may see a resurgence in the next few years.
It’s also worth noting that while the OnePlus 8T doesn’t come with Facebook’s apps and services pre-installed, the company still doesn’t provide an easy way for users to remove pre-installed services from older devices. While OnePlus did not comment on this issue, a source familiar with the matter said Entry that the situation is more complicated than it seems and that there is no simple and easy to use way to remove Facebook services from phones that come with them pre-installed. This means that OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus Nord users will be stuck with Facebook services on their devices. Fortunately, we have a simple guide to help you remove the pre-installed Facebook services from your OnePlus device that you can check out by following the link below.
