The long-awaited Nissan Magnite finally went on sale in India, and the new subcompact SUV is priced from ₹ 4.99 lakh to ₹ 9.35 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). These are introductory prices and are valid for customers who reserve the car before December 31, 2020. The new Magnite is based on the same CMF-A + platform that underpins the Renault Triber, and it is also the first SUV under 4 meters from the Japanese automaker in India. Visually, the new Nissan Magnite retains most of the design and styling cues of the prototype that was introduced earlier this year. Now, the SUV was originally intended to be a Datsun product, but as part of the company’s new strategy, it has come under the Nissan brand. In fact, it still has the signature Datsun grille with the chrome brackets, albeit with the new Nissan logo. Under the hood, the new Nissan Magnite comes with two gasoline engine options: a 1.0-liter naturally aspirated engine and a 1.0-liter gasoline turbo unit. While the former is tuned to generate around 71 hp and 96 Nm of torque, the turbo-gasoline unit produces 99 hp and 160 Nm of torque. Transmission tasks will be handled by a 5-speed manual gearbox for both engines, however, the turbocharged gasoline unit also comes with an optional CVT automatic unit, and that offers slightly less torque at 152 Nm.
