The next wave of Covid will hit ‘like a tsunami’, warns Maharashtra CM

Mumbai: The Covid-19 pandemic has been brought under control in Maharashtra thanks to the discipline of citizens, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Sunday. However, he also warned at the same time that if people do not follow safety measures, it can trigger a second or third wave “like a tsunami”.

“In the past we celebrated all of our festivals with caution. Be it Ganeshotsav or Dussehra. You are all cooperating with me. Even while celebrating Diwali, I asked you not to break cookies and you guys followed. And because of this, the war against Covid is on. under our control, “he said.

“But I am a little angry at all of you. I had already said that after Diwali there will be overcrowding. Do not think that Covid is over. I have seen many people without masks. Do not be so careless. Be in western countries, Delhi or Ahmedabad. This second and third wave is strong like a tsunami. Ahmedabad has even imposed night curfews, “added Thackeray.

On Sunday, Maharashtra reported 5,753 new cases. On Sunday, 50 deaths from Covid-19 were reported in the state. The fatality rate is 2.62%, while the recovery rate is 92.75%.

“Covid is not dying due to overcrowding. In fact, it is going to grow. We do not know when the vaccine will come out. Even if it comes out in December, when will it reach Maharashtra? Maharashtra has 12 million people. And it must be administered twice. For So we will need vaccines for 25 million million people. So please take care of yourself. It will take time, “he said.

Thackeray’s speech comes after Maharashtra MP CM Ajit Pawar hinted on Sunday that there could be another Covid-induced lockdown in the coming days.

“There were large crowds during the Diwali period. Even at the time of Ganesha Chaturthi, we saw crowds. We are talking with the relevant departments. We will review the situation for the next 8 to 10 days and then a decision on the closure will be made,” He said. Pawar in Pune.

The state government has allowed schools to reopen for classes 9-12 starting tomorrow, depending on the Covid-19 situation in local areas. The reopening of schools in Pimpri Chinchwad was postponed until November 30.

Pawar’s statement also comes at a time when speculation abounds that the state is considering a possible suspension of train and flight operations to and from Delhi in light of the rise in COVID-19 cases.

“If we don’t have enough beds, our sanitation workers get infected, then no one will be able to save us. This is not the case at the moment, but we still have to be very careful. We still haven’t been able to open schools. On a peak. I don’t want to go to no closure again, “said the Chief Minister.

“So once again, I want to tell you: don’t crowd, wear a mask, wash your hands and keep your distance. This will only keep us safe. I have now opened all the places of worship.”
