The next 3 months will help determine the Covid situation in India: Vardhan

Coming three months will help in determining the situation of Covid-19 in the country, although the government is taking appropriate measures to combat it, said Harsh Vardhan, the Union’s Minister of Health and Family Welfare, on Friday.

The Health Minister warned that if proper precautions are taken and proper Covid behavior is followed in the upcoming festival and winter season, India will be in a better position to fight Coronavirus.

The total boxed Covid-19 count reached 77,70,267. India registered 54,366 new confirmed cases in the last 24 hours and reported 690 cases of death, bringing the toll to 117,870. About 78% of these are from 10 states and UT. Maharashtra and Kerala contribute mainly to new cases with more than 7,000, followed by Karnataka with more than 5,000 cases, according to the Ministry of Health.

The total number of positive cases in the country on Friday was 6.95,509, which represents approximately 8.96% of all cases. Almost 81% of deaths are concentrated in ten states / UT, the health ministry said, adding that Maharashtra has reported the highest number of deaths in a single day (198 deaths). The national fatality rate is currently 1.51%. India crossed the milestone of 10 crore (10,01,13,085) total tests on Friday with 14,42,722 tests performed in the last 24 hours.

India is also reporting a high number of recoveries. The total number of recovered cases is almost 70 lakhs (69,48,497). More than 73,979 patients have recovered and discharged in the last 24 hours, while the new confirmed cases are 54,366. The national recovery rate has advanced further to 89.53%, the government said.

In the last three months, the country has seen a significant improvement in Covid parameters. “From registering more than 95,000 cases in one day, the cases have been reduced substantially to less than 55,000 cases in one day. India’s recovery rate is close to 90%. The fatality rate is also decreasing. The CFR stands at 1.51% and is moving towards the goal of having a CFR of less than 1%, “said Harsh Vardhan.

“The number of active cases is less than 7 lakh and the doubling rate has increased to 97.2 days, as of now. The journey that started with just having a laboratory, we have come a long way and now we have almost 2000 laboratories in the country. The total number of tests conducted throughout the country has exceeded Rs 10 million. This is a positive indication that we are moving in the right direction, “he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Health met with the Ministers of Health and Medical Education and other senior officials from Uttar Pradesh via video conference to review Covid-19 readiness and measures to ensure appropriate behavior for Covid. Harsh Vardhan emphasized that the state should focus on increasing testing, surveillance, contact tracing and early diagnosis to keep the death rate low.

As of today, Uttar Pradesh has a mortality rate of 1.46%, which is lower than the national average. The state’s recovery rate (92.2%) is also higher than the national recovery rate. The positivity rate is 3.44%. Harsh Vardhan emphasized that the state should focus on increasing testing, surveillance, contact tracing and early diagnosis to keep the death rate low.
