Mumbai: Iqbal Singh Chahal, who has been appointed as the new commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), assumed the official position later on Friday.
Chahal has been appointed as the new commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), while Pravin Pardeshi was transferred to the Urban Development department as Additional Chief Secretary.
Development occurs in the midst of the COVID-19 battle, while cases continue to rise in Mumbai with 11,967 coronavirus cases and 462 deaths.
Chahal, a 1989 IAS batch from Maharashtra Cadre has served at the Center also during the UPA government in the deputation.
BMC previously amended its previous order to reduce employee strength to 75 percent to maintain social distancing in its offices in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
In its order of April 30, BMC ordered 100% attendance for all its employees in offices and in the field, with some relaxation for people over 55 and people with medical conditions.
All staff 55 and older are advised to work from home or in the office and not go to the field, the Corporation said.
