New Delhi:
Delhi should be prepared for around 15,000 new COVID-19 cases per day, taking into account respiratory problems related to the upcoming winter season, large influx of patients from abroad and festive gatherings, warned a report prepared by the NCDC. .
The report drawn up by the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) under the leadership of the expert group chaired by NITI member Aayog (Health) Dr. VK Paul has recommended to the Delhi government that they make arrangements for the hospitalization of approximately one fifth of these patients with moderate and severe disease.
The NCDC in its “ Revised Strategy for Control of COVID-19 Version 3.0 ” also noted that the overall COVID-19 fatality rate in Delhi is 1.9 percent, which is higher than the national average of the 1.5 percent. He stated that reducing mortality as much as possible should be one of the key goals of managing the pandemic.
According to the report presented to the Delhi government, there are three reasons for concern that may cause undue pressure on health services, such as the winter months exacerbating respiratory illnesses and with festive gatherings there could be a sudden increase in cases.
Also, patients may come from outside Delhi in large numbers. Patients coming from distant areas are likely to be more severe, the report stressed.
